Youth Sports Department
The Y is looking for a welcoming and nurturing instructor to
teach the Preschool Fit-n-Fun and 1-2-3 Grow classes.
Under the direction of the Youth Sports Department, the
instructor will be responsible for supplying a healthy and safe
environment for children ages 1-5 and their parents to have a
positive and rewarding experience at the YMCA.
Essential Duties:
-
Provide kids ages 1-5 a space to grow and learn basic motor
skills through sport and fitness activity, and enhance their
creative ability through arts and crafts.
-
Plan and execute lesson plans for Preschool Fit-n-Fun and
1-2-3 Grow classes.
-
Connect with parents and families, offer support and
guidance to parents, and promote peer socialization between
children and parents, helping to retain involvement in
program.
The goals of the program are:
-
To improve child’s motor movement skills
-
To improve child’s hand/eye coordination
-
To improve child’s social skills
-
To improve child’s cognitive reasoning through activities
-
To prepare children for school age development
Qualifications:
-
Experience working with children ages 1-5 in creative
setting
-
Ability to keep children engaged while allowing a nurturing
environment to grow and learn.
-
Experience teaching basic motor skills and/or arts and
crafts
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Bachelors’ degree in education, counseling, human
development, or related field (experience working in field
can substitute for educational background).

Experience or ability to work with special needs children.

Water Fitness Instructors
Description:
The Broome County YMCA Aquatics Department is looking for
friendly, outgoing Water Fitness Instructors to lead deep water or
shallow water fitness classes. Some land or water fitness experience
(even as a participant) a plus, but we will provide all necessary
training. A variety of class times are available.
The essential duties and
responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-
Leads class in the total body fitness
workout in either deep or shallow water,
-
maintains a safe environment for class,
-
reports incidents to lifeguard or higher
authority,
-
implements the four basic concepts of
YMCA Character Development throughout class, Respect,
Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring
-
Attends all mandatory staff meetings and
trainings.
Qualifications:
Friendly, outgoing person who is comfortable leading a large class;
ability to swim and provide an hour of continuous instruction.

High school diploma. One to three months
related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
-
Must have current First Aid, CPR & AED
certifications or obtain within 90 days of start date.
-
Water Fitness Certifications,
Lifeguarding or YASA certifications are preferred but not a must.
